Prof. Max Berkelhammer recently spoke briefly to ABC 7 News about the early snowfall we've been experiencing in Chicago.

As of early December, the several areas in the Chicago region have already experienced over 12 inches of snow. A mix of cold and warm temperatures have also led to built up ice in gutters and an abundance of icicles forming off of buildings.

Prof. Berkelhammer spoke about the early start to winter:

"Certainly, in the last three decades or so, I don't think we've seen a winter [arrive so] early, [with] intense snow. You have to step back and look at the long-term trends and say, 'Yeah, you're going to get cold fronts. You're going to get cold winters,' even as we experience (...) long-term warming trends."
